Murray Kelman

Junior Environmental Consultant

I began working for Enviro-dynamics as part of a school based apprenticeship whilst I completed my senior education and a Certificate II in Conservation and Ecosystem Management with TasTAFE. My first year or so was mostly on-ground, working with the Derwent Catchment Project on weed management, river restoration, drone mapping, conservation action and more. I subsequently began to pursue my passion for working with wildlife and wildlife conservation - particularly threatened species. This led to my involvement in projects such as our Swift Parrot monitoring project, among others. From a very young age I have had an insatiable passion for birdlife, something that has overflowed into herpetology and mammalogy, with a keen research interest in our microbats. This somewhat consuming and oft bewildering passion has since led me to pursue more tropical climes in the rainforests of FNQ, where I study Zoology and Ecology at James Cook University and work remotely for Enviro-dynamics, mainly focussing on producing communications.

Living on the Atherton Tablelands is every nature nerd’s dream, including mine. My spare time usually finds me wandering through the bush, camera in one hand and binos in the other as I try to track down some of the more elusive animals whose homes I wander through. I am also involved in microbat research, and spend much of my time pouring over GIS and endless data sheets, doing my best to tell what stories I can about some of our more poorly known species.
